18 images Created 15 Nov 2020
San Miguel is a small city in Mexico's central highlands known for its Spanish architecture and arts scene. San Miguel is also known for its cultural events, having many festivals and parades throughout the year. This series of photographs is largely based off one of these cultural events, the Semana Santa or Holy Week that starts two weeks before Easter. Pilgrims walk from the nearby village of Atotonilco to San Miguel carrying the beloved statue: El Senor de la Columna (Jesus carrying his crucifixion cross). Fireworks, balloons and the roads lined with oranges and plants were characteristics of how San Miguel welcomed these pilgrims.
