Bay Street Glimmer, Toronto, 2017

I always say that good light drives my life as a photographer and in this image, it is the most essential aspect of the photograph. Walking south on Bay Street the light was streaking up the street, creating some interesting shadows as people walked into the light. The streaks of light perfecting hang over the pair of businessmen as they walk with their briefcases. I also like the dark areas of the photograph, both shadows and street darkness. The lights of cars are still visible and give a feel of the busy street. What I didn’t realize with this image is that the graphic design element so prevalent is similar to other photograph made in the 1950’s and 1960’s from the Chicago Institute of Design. I had no idea of their images until I took a history of photography course and was made aware of their past work. This was very weird to me that others had seen and photographed in a similar fashion. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised, as most aspects of photography have been done in one way or the other over time
